And now time for a little shooter chatter. They’re not the most talkative of fellows, but pistols always have the last word – this being no exception. Pensive, dramatic, locked and loaded with suspense, Rider Shafique has stern words with his heater while Baobinga and I.D ensure a riffle-like rhythm beneath. Coupled with bashy attack from Kahn on the remix -complete with chilling Detroitian synths – it’s a double hit. Dark vibes continue elsewhere on the release with “Lickle Further”, a cheery dancefloor tune about murderation. Militant riddims and serious Kingston flavours, put your pistols down and listen up!

Back on Deep Medi afer blowing their socks off with “Uprising” last year, Commodo now serves up four prime cuts of pressure that come from the same meditative space that typifies the label. “Northern Soul” stalks around a choice selection of minor-key refrains while the bass comes swelling in from afar in precision fashion. “Surveillance” growls around a deadly construction of dubstep perfection, keeping the intensity high with a sound made up primarily of heavyweight percussive hits. There’s no let up throughout, although “So Clear” does take a marginally less mean-spirited tone in its demeanour. For true head-nodding gutter tactics you can’t fault this one little bit.

Launched in 2005 by original ‘90s Jungle pioneer, Shy FX, Digital Soundboy quickly established itself as one of the UK’s most exciting labels, its quality over quantity ethos making it a standard bearer for the UK’s world leading bass music scene.

With a back catalogue that includes some of the biggest club hits of the past ten years, including tracks from Skream, Benga, Redlight and Jess Mills, and a reputation for throwing the biggest parties around, Digital Soundboy’s position in dance history is assured.

Today the label’s roster of Shy FX, Breakage, B.Traits, Youngman, Dismantle and Stamina MC are all successful artists in their own right, but first and foremost Digital Soundboy remains a family, one that plays, parties and produces together and together continues to break new ground.

“fabric is now the cornerstone in British clubbing for great music.” Shy FX

“The first time I played I remember being more nervous than usual because it was fabric, but I had a great time and I always do!” Breakage

“Shy, Breakage and myself all chose a number of tracks separately for the mix, then we worked on it together at the Digital Soundboy studio. We have a few fun exclusive dubs in there that I think really bring a personal touch to the mix.” B.Traits

The first officially released Digital Soundboy mix, FABRICLIVE 63 perfectly captures the carnival spirit of the label and its parties.

From drum n’ bass to dubstep, dancehall to garage, via excursions into house and beyond FABRICLIVE 63 showcases the Digital Soundboy crew’s ability to bring together myriad genres and styles in the freshest way possible and create a pure party-starting selection.

Mixed by Shy FX, B.Traits and Breakage, each separately choosing their favourite tracks before working on the mix together in the Digital Soundboy studio, FABRICLIVE 63 features a mix of exclusive dubs and upcoming releases from the Digital Soundboy family; tracks such as Zed Bias’ ‘Heavy Water Riddim’ and Dismantle’s ‘Warp’, classic anthems like Shy FX’s ‘Original Nuttah’, and the unexpected such as M.A.N.D.Y vs Booka Shade ‘Body Language’.

An inspired selection that will put a smile on many a face and a bounce in your step, FABRICLIVE 63 ducks and weaves its way across the musical spectrum, and like the label itself, refuses to be pigeonholed.

Vitamin D:
One of the hottest names in dubstep today, DATSIK has teamed
with Steve Aoki’s Dim Mak Records to release his debut artist album
this spring (date TBA). Titled VITAMIN D, it will feature his freshest
instrumentals and collaborations with the likes of Jonathan Davis of
KORN, Infected Mushroom and Z-Trip. The album’s first offering is

“Fully Blown,” due out January 31 with fellow Canadian artist,
rapper Snak The Ripper.

“Fully Blown” (The First Single From Vitamin D):

”I met Datsik through mutual friends I think,” says Snak The Ripper.
“I had heard of him long before that though. He called me out of the
blue and left a message on my answering machine. He explained
who he was and said how he thought my tunes were sick! We kept
in touch from then on and the rest is history…” Adds Snak The
Ripper: “Datsik’s success as an artist is undeniable. His talent is next
level! Collaborating with him has given me the opportunity to try
something new with my own skills which is super exciting. He is an
inspiration to other Canadian artists like myself, and I look forward
to working with him again.”

“I think dubstep has become so huge because it’s a complete
bastardization of electronic music,” exclaims rapidly emerging
young producer and artist DATSIK. “There’s a little bit of everything
thrown in the mix and dirtied up. There are pieces of hip-hop, the
bass from electronic dance tracks and the roots of U.K. garage and
drum & bass…Dubstep is totally the punk rock of electronic music.”

If DATSIK (born Troy Beetles) sounds more like a young rapper than one of the world’s preeminent young dubstepstars, it’s for good reason. The Kelowna, British Columbia native grew up a hardcore rap fan that still pledges allegiance to classic Wu-Tang Clan and it permeates his dark, aggressive music.
DATSIK’s future-tech dance-floor detonators exploded on the dubstep scene almost immediately, racking up a
series of seven #1 tracks on Beatport, including at one time owning five of the ten tunes on their best-sellers chart.
He’s also had smash hits on other music sites like Juno, Red Eye and Chemical Records and early remix credits
include works for the biggest names in the game like Diplo, The Crystal Method and Bassnectar.
Now he’s produced a dozen new tracks for his debut full-length album, VITAMIN D on Dim Mak Records, featuring
collaborations with Infected Mushroom, DJ Z-Trip and Jonathan Davis of KORN. “I’ve been a KORN fan since
back in the day,” DATSIK explains about Jonathan Davis who reached out to him directly to collaborate on KORN’s
2011 genre-defying album The Path of Totality. “He was so complementary about our music and how much he
loved it. So when he said he wanted to work with us, we couldn’t say yes fast enough.”
The spooky resulting track “Evilution” was built from another Jonathan Davis collaboration, this time with Israeli
psy-trance band Infected Mushroom. Collaborating after a chance meeting backstage at New York’s massive Electric Zoo festival last summer, the pair brought their wildly disparate sounds together as one. “Blending dubstep
with psy-trance and Jonathan Davis sounds kind of insane,” DATSIK admits, “but the track came out great and I’m
stoked on it.”
Next to manic dubstep tracks like the menacing “Napalm” (featuring rapper Messenian), the grimy, hip-hop swagger of DJ Z-Trip collaboration “Double Trouble” and the devastating first single “Fully Loaded” with rapper Snack
the Ripper, DATSIK’s debut album VITAMIN D is poised to set a new standard in the wild world of dubstep.
Loaded with bone-rattling beats and enough energy to power the Vegas Strip, it’s poised to be the dubstep fulllength to beat in 2012.
“It’s important to me to have my own style,” he stresses, citing Method Man as the one artist at the top of his
collaboration “bucket list.” “I will always have a strong hip-hop element and be heavy as f—, but it’s always going
to sound like the future.”

Over the past few years dance music, and dubstep especially, has finally captured the imagination of the American public, creating several international superstars along the way. Now one of the most versatile producers of this new breed, San Francisco’s Noah D AKA Noah Dickinson finally releases his full-length debut album Perspective, worldwide this April on SMOG Records.

With over 10 years production experience, it’s hard to believe that this is Noah D’s debut full-length. Initially producing hip-hop and drum & bass, it was when Noah teamed up with longlife friends and roommates Babylon System that his career really stepped up a gear.

The resulting tracks caught the ears of dubstep pioneers such as Skream and N-Type, and saw London’s Rinse FM place Noah D on heavy rotation, spurring him on to complete his debut full-length, Perspective.

Featuring collaborations with the likes of South London’s P.Money (‘Let Yourself Go’), Antiserum and Newham Generals (‘Gonna Get Dark’) and rapper The Grouch on lead single ‘Just Right’, Perspective is an intricate and diverse album, as Noah D fuses dubstep and grime, hip-hop, electronica and drum n’ bass together in his own unique style.
